Unlike every other Eaton part covered on this site, the JMV Series is genuinely a motor, not a pump — a 2-speed axial piston motor that converts hydraulic power (supplied by a separate pump, often a heavy-duty closed-circuit piston pump) into the mechanical rotation that drives a bulldozer's tracks. If your dozer's track drive is underperforming, understanding this distinction matters for correct diagnosis.
A bulldozer's track drive system is genuinely a two-part circuit: a pump (often a heavy-duty closed-circuit piston pump, supplied separately) generates hydraulic flow, and the JMV Series motor converts that flow into the mechanical torque that turns the track sprockets. The "2-speed" design lets the dozer shift between a high-torque, low-speed mode for heavy pushing work and a faster travel mode for repositioning — genuinely different from a fixed-ratio system.
