A Real History, But Not a Current Caterpillar Product
Here's the accurate history: Caterpillar did make agricultural tractors, under the Challenger brand it created in 1986 — including the Challenger 65, the world's first rubber-tracked agricultural tractor. But Caterpillar sold the entire Challenger brand and its agricultural assets to AGCO in 2002. Since then, Challenger tractors are manufactured by AGCO, not Caterpillar, and don't run Caterpillar-designed hydraulics. If you're running a Challenger tractor today, it's an AGCO product regardless of the name on the badge.
Challenger tractors made after 2002 — including the current 700 and 800 Series tracked models — are AGCO-engineered products, built at AGCO's Jackson, Minnesota facility, using AGCO Power engines on newer models rather than Caterpillar diesel engines. If you have an older, pre-2002 Challenger tractor still running a genuine Caterpillar-era engine and hydraulics, that's a distinct legacy situation — WhatsApp us your exact model year and we can advise on parts availability.
