The nameplate is typically a stamped metal tag or an embossed/etched panel directly on the pump housing — not on the machine's main chassis plate, which identifies your vehicle, not the specific pump fitted to it. On most excavators and similar equipment, it's mounted on the pump body itself, often on the side facing outward from the engine bay for accessibility. If you can't locate it visually, a flashlight and a willingness to get your hands dirty near the pump housing usually finds it.
The Fields That Actually Matter for Ordering
1. Manufacturer name or logo. Confirms the genuine supplier — Kawasaki, Rexroth, Sauer Danfoss, Parker, and so on. This sounds obvious, but on machines that have had a pump replaced before (sometimes with a different-brand substitute), this is the field that catches you out if you assume based on the vehicle brand alone.
2. Model or part number. This is the single most important field. It's usually an alphanumeric code — something like "K3V112DT" or a numeric Volvo-style part number like "14595620." This is what actually determines fitment; two pumps with similar-looking specs can still be different parts if this number doesn't match.
3. Displacement (cc/rev). Tells you how much fluid the pump moves per revolution — directly related to flow output. If your nameplate shows a displacement figure that doesn't match what we quote you, that's worth flagging immediately rather than assuming it's a rounding difference.
4. Pressure rating (bar). The maximum rated operating pressure. Worth noting: the same base pump model sometimes appears at different pressure ratings across different machine applications — we've documented this directly with Kawasaki's K3V112DT, which runs at 320 bar on some machines and 350 bar on others depending on the specific application. Don't assume based on model number alone; check this figure specifically.
5. Serial number. Usually not needed for ordering a replacement, but useful if you're trying to trace your machine's production date or confirm a warranty claim with the original manufacturer.

Corrosion, oil residue, or physical damage can make a nameplate partially illegible — genuinely common on older machines.
